Baltimore was able to start the scoring midway into the first quarter. Adriano Dos Santos took a pass from Rochester Rhino Onua Osabi and sent a weak shot just past the reach of Knight's keeper Andrew Coughlin. Three minutes later, Lucas Roque found the back of the net to put the Blast up 2-0.
It wasn't until the second quarter where the Knights would get on the score board. With the Knights attacking in the Blast's end, Nate Bourdeau sent a shot at Blast keeper William Vanzela. Vanzela made the initial save, but was unable to keep Domenico Vitale from firing in the rebound. The score of 2-1 would hold going into halftime and through the third quarter.
In the early stages of the fourth quarter, the Knights would get a free kick from the top the box. After a timeout, Doug Miller would originally charge the ball and knock it gently for Kenardo Forbes. Forbes then rocketed the ball past the Blast defense and into the net to tie the game at two. The Knight's offensive attack would not stop there. With seven minutes left in regulation, Joey Tavernese would charged the Blast zone and put a shot on net, which was saved by Vanzela. However, like Vitale's goal in the second quarter, there was a huge rebound left for the taking. Doug Miller, who had one of the shootout goals Friday night, found it and put the ball in the net. The Knights had a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, Miller would take a hit just minutes later and finish the game with a broken nose. But, thanks to shutdown defense and another brilliant performance from Coughlin, the Knights hung on and took the win by a final of 3-2.
Keeper Andrew Coughlin would finish with 14 saves for the Knights, stunning another top level team in his young career.
"It's pretty surreal" he said after the game. "I never expected even at the beginning of the week, I wasn't signed with the team and I was just training. To come in, first two games, first two wins, it's an unbelievable feeling and all the guys really helped me out too."
Coach Tommy Tanner was also beaming with pride over his young goalie and the plays he made this weekend.
"He made some incredible saves and decisions with the ball at his feet which is even more important."
For Doug Miller, who was just signed this week as well, he wasn't going to let a broken nose hamper this huge weekend of huge goals.
"I think that's what Tommy brought me here to do is spark the team and I'm thankful I could do that."
With the loss, the Blast fell to 11-1, their perfect season officially ended. For the Silver Knights, they improved their record to 7-6, which boosts them up to second in the East Division behind Baltimore and in front of Detroit. If the standings hold for the rest of the season, Syracuse would have home field advantage with their best of three first round playoff series with the Waza Flo.
Syracuse's next matches are this coming weekend. They travel to Chicago to take on the Mustangs on Saturday then travel to Milwaukee for a match against the Wave on Sunday. After that, they have 18 days off, which Tommy Tanner is looking forward to.
"Hopefully coming into our last five games, we'll be all healthy and ready to go."
