Then, the team has continued to make news today. This afternoon, the organization announced that they have three bobble head giveaways scheduled in the coming schedule. On February 25, the Crunch will give out Tyler Johnson bobble heads to a limited number of fans. On March 18, the team will give out a limited number of Ondrej Palat bobble heads. Finally, the team will give out a limited number of Nikita Kucherov bobble heads. The three players are current stars with the Tampa Bay Lightning and were instrumental in the Crunch's success when they first affiliated with the Lightning. The Crunch are offering a ticket package for all three games.
On the pitch, the Syracuse Silver Knights did not have the success seen by their hockey counterparts. They traveled down to Florida for two games against the Florida Tropics this weekend, with both teams trying to gain the advantage in the MASL East Division playoff race. Unfortunately, the Silver Knights would fall in two closely played games. On Saturday night, the Knights came up short, losing 3-2 in a heavy defense based game. Antonio Manfut and Slavisa Ubiparipovic had the goals for Syracuse in that game. On Sunday, it was a goal fest where a total of 22 goals were scored between the two squads. Slavisa Ubiparipovic had a hat trick for the Knights and Zach McNabb had two goals as well. With the two losses, the Knights playoff hopes took a major hit. With two road games against Baltimore coming up this weekend, they need to pull out their best game and some luck to keep their playoff chances intact.
Lastly, Syracuse has another new franchise to support and cheer. On Wednesday, Syracuse FC was born, joining the National Premier Soccer League, which is the fourth level in the American soccer pyramid. They are led by an experienced group, featuring President Jaro Zawislan, who has coached for Cornell, Syracuse, and Stanford, Matt Tantalo, former head coach of the Rochester RIverDogz and current Nazareth head coach, Syracuse soccer legend Joe Papaleo, and former Syracuse Silver Knight L.J. Papaleo. They will play their home games at Murphy Field on the campus of Onondaga Community College while playing in the Midwest Region. This means they will face competition in the Rochester River Dogz, who feature Syracuse Silver Knight Jake Schindler, FC Buffalo, and defending NPSL Champions AFC Cleveland, who have Syracuse Silver Knight Antonio Manfut on their roster. It will be exciting to see this franchise grow and see them prepare for the upcoming 2017 season. We at The Fair Cuse Sports Report will keep you up to date on not just Syracuse FC, but continue to cover all professional sports teams across Central New York/Fingerlakes.
