In front of a rowdy crowd packed into the Utica Aud, the Crunch took advantage of a weakened Comets squad, defeating them 3-1. Adam Erne, Joel Vermin, and Matthew Peca all tallied goals for the Crunch while Kristers Gudlevskis stood tall between the pipes with 28 saves.
While the Crunch did their part with the win, the Rochester Amerks were not so willing to give up the spot that easily. After trailing the St. John's Ice Caps 5-1, the Amerks netted five unanswered goals and completed a 6-5 comeback win.
With both the Crunch and Amerks picking up wins, the two teams are now tied for the final playoff spot with .523 point percentages. However, the Amerks technically hold the spot through several tiebreakers, including overall wins, wins in head to head match ups with the Crunch, and goals scored.
The Crunch return home Friday night to face the Albany Devils before hosting the Amerks on Saturday night. Both games are scheduled for 7pm.
