Earlier this summer, the Syracuse Strong found themselves in a dog fight against the Sussex Stags. Many questioned if they actually played a football game when the final score was just 3-2 in favor for Sussex. Two weeks ago, the Strong made sure that wouldn't happen again. The Strong got revenge on the Stags with a 38-0 romp over at Nottingham High School. We are still awaiting a result from last week's game between Syracuse and Glove Cities. However, the current EFL standings have the Strong in second place with a 6-2 record, which does represent a second seed in the playoffs.
Yesterday, the Tampa Bay Lightning organization announced that goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy will be out 2-3 months due to neck surgery. It was then reported by Syracuse.com that Adam Wilcox, who joined the Syracuse Crunch after graduating from the University of Minnesota, is ready to be the Crunch's starting goalie. This, of course, is if Kristers Gudlevskis is called up to Tampa Bay to back up Ben Bishop. Now, I have not had the opportunity to see Adam Wilcox in extended action. Last season, I saw both games where he was put between the pipes for the Crunch and I only thought he was okay at best. Honestly, he looked like a kid who just got into the pro hockey game. That doesn't mean he isn't or won't be a great goalie. I just believe he may not be the best or down right automatic choice to start for the Crunch right now. Allen York, who has plenty of experience playing in the AHL and has spent time with the Crunch, is the guy I would want to start in goal if Guddy is in fact called up. Then again, with preseason to begin this week, Wilcox could prove himself as ready and earn the starting spot over York and vice versa. The Crunch's preseason will be an interesting one with a lot of the line coming into the season opener on October 11th.
