For the Syracuse Crunch, they are headed down I-81 for a 3pm match-up with their long time rival, the Binghamton Senators. The Crunch are coming off a disappointing 5-2 loss on home ice against Portland on Friday night. Last night, they had a rare day off. This surely benefited the Crunch, needed some rest to heal up and get back to full strength. In Friday night's game, captain Mike Angelidis returned from injury and scored for the Crunch. Cody Kunyk also had a nifty breakaway goal for the home team, which also sent a Portland defender hurling over his own goalie and into his own net. However, a breakdown on defense in the first period doomed the Crunch, allowing three crucial goals that they could not overcome.
Right now, the Crunch still sit on top of the Northeast Division with 74 points. However, there are several teams making the charge to catch the Crunch, including Springfield and Hartford. They need to win today to keep up with those teams and defend their spot at the top of the division. For Binghamton, they are really fighting to even crack the top 8 in the Eastern Conference and earn a playoff spot. Like Portland, they will have a chip on their shoulder and be giving the Crunch all they can handle in order to make a run in the standings.
